Men have become 2nd-class citizens in our country. We are considered expendable by the media and government and society at large. For instance, in any circumstance where there is tragedy involved, You always hear reference to “the women and children” that were harmed. Almost never THE MEN. Why is this? Are women and children more deserving than men? Is it OK to kill men but not the women and children? Where did this all come from?
Even after all the struggles in this country for “equality” by women, you will note that Selective Services only require boys, not girls to register. Our male children are considered potential war fodder where our our female children are not? Why is it that the males are always considered more expendable? What is going on with that? And if feminists truly want equal treatment, why have they not fought to be considered equally expendable?
Funny, that.
Personally, I am against war. The wars the US have been engaging in past WWII have not involved actual attacks on US soil. You may argue that 9-11 is an exception, but 9-11 is not the result of a country looking to invade and take over the US, but a set of individuals who are pissed that the US have come in and meddled around in their countries!
A bit different, indeed.
And yet, our young boys are expected to go to these foreign lands, kill innocents, and be killed themselves. All to serve the military industrial complex, all to serve resource interests, all to serve the corporate dollar.
At the expense of their blood.
Sorry, I’m not buying it.
Men are real people. We are NOT expendable. We can be just as “innocent” as the much vaunted “women and children”. And I will no longer stand for being declared a 2nd-class citizen.
True equality means that we are ALL treated equally. The feminists who only fight when they can get an advantage, but become very quiet when they will get a disadvantage, like with car insurance or the Selective Service, for instance, are being very disingenuous on the claim they want “equality”. They don’t want equality, but want an advantage. I would respect them more if they would just admit the truth.
Ultimately, I hold that “equality” is a mirage concept — it seems good from a distance, but becomes completely unworkable when you examine it up close. The truth of the matter is that we are all individuals, all born with a various admixture of talents and potentials. I firmly hold that individuals should not be hindered in any way from expressing those talents and potentialities. Nor should they be considered “less of a person” due to some of those traits or lack of certain potentialities. They should not be considered “less of a person” due to personal choices, predilections, cultural identifications, orientations, or anything else.
We are Human, after all.
Alas, that’s also the problem.
We humans evolved to favor “tribalism”. This may have been an important survival characteristic in long times past, before recorded history, when life was very harsh and the food was scarce. Humans had to band together in small functional groups to survive, and fight other small bands of humans that may take their hard-earned resources away.
Yeah, I get that.
But today, we are a gigantic community of 6.5 billion humans. The old ways of tribalism need not apply. Indeed, the old ways get in the way of human progress. It leads to conflicts at all levels, small and great.
The old ways of tribalism have given way to mega-tribes and mega-clustering. We now have clusters within clusters within clusters, and groupings of groupings of groupings, many of which overlap in complicated ways. The sheer size of it all would require many lifetimes to crack and understand.
But the downside is, of course, that some of the clusters still fight other clusters in very old-style tribal-like fashion. Whether or not we are talking about wars and other issues surrounding geopolitics, or gender issues, or gay and lesbian rights, or labor unions, or Democrats vs. Republicans, or Racism, or Religious bigotry, it does not matter. It’s the old, superannuated tribalistic ways being applied to today’s modern world.
Inefficient and wasteful of the human species.
Somewhere in there, Men have been forced into a type of diaspora, which are presumed dangerous and dishonest until proven otherwise. We are automatically considered criminalistic power-hungry killers until we can be shown to be something else. Even Hollywood kowtows to these stereotypes, in many subtle and not so subtle ways.
Even the news media is biased as it presents men’s issues vs. women’s issues. And this has been going on for decades.
Feminists expect the young men born today to bear the blame and responsibility of the abuses in the past, where today’s men had nothing to do with.
So we are treated harshly by the police, by family court, and the society at large.
THIS MUST STOP.
Men as dads are very compassionate, love their children as much as the moms do, and are every bit as nurturing, if not more so.
We must get back to considering Individuals as Individuals, not as some member to some tribal mega-group, where all sorts of biases and assumptions are imposed. We are NOT the expendable money bags that the courts and feminists try to make us out to be.
WE CARE.
And as soon as everyone recognizes this plain fact, the sooner we can achieve parity.
